Nash’s Journey: From El Barrio to Union Victory
Ignacio Castañeda, a Chicano from Segundo Barrio in El Paso, Texas, left the only home he knew, ending up in Illinois with relatives. He grew up and rose through the ranks to become union president for UAW Local 2144 and an employee of Greyhound Corporation in Chicago. In 1986, he led the fight for pension justice on behalf of 19,000 workers after the company fired them. After a seven-year legal battle, UAW sued Greyhound and won.
